Sachin Tendulkar Recalls How An Injury From a Shoaib Akhtar Delivery Affected Him Former India player and batting maestro Sachin Tendulkarhas recently shared how an injury he sustained during Pakistan’s India tour in 2007, had affected him. Notably, he got a blow to his rib cage while facing one of the fastest pacers Shoaib Akhtar in an ODI but he continued to play and later had featured in the Australia series as well in the coming months with considerable pain. He revealed that the because of the injury he had trouble while coughing or even sleeping on his tummy for nearly two months as well. “I got hit in my rib cage in 2007,” Tendulkarrecently said during a session on Unacademy. “We were playing Pakistan in India and in the first over itself I got hit in the rib cage off a Shoaib Akhtar ball. It was quite painful. For a month and a half or two months, I was not able to cough or sleep on my tummy. But I continued playing like that and had designed my own chest guard. I played the remaining four ODIs and the Test series. Before going to Australia as well, I played whatever cricket there was.” Image Source by twitter
After playing against Pakistan for three Tests and a five-match ODI series in 2007, they travelled to Australia for four Tests and then had played a tri-series featuring Sri Lanka as well. And, Tendulkar took part in both the tours. However, in Australia, he had sustained a groin injury and after that he had to undergo a full body scan after coming back home. It was then the doctor had said to him that he may also have a broken rib as well. However, the batting legend was more worried about groin injury because the IPL was soon going to start and if he couldn’t get fit in time, he would have missed the first seven matches as well. But eventually, he got fit later on and played for the country as well as in the IPL for a few more years as well.
