  1. Searching the Internet Effectively – Boolean Searches When using the Internet we use search engines to find the information we need. We often use ’KEYWORD’ searches like below. As you can see the amount of results is ‘MASSIVE’. Boolean searches make the results smaller and more specific.

  2. Searching the Internet Effectively – Boolean Searches OR CAT DOG DOG “AND” CAT RESULTS Using the Boolean operator ’OR’ in your searches will expand your search results. Or is the default search engine term.

  3. Searching the Internet Effectively – Boolean Searches NOT DOG CAT DOG “AND” CAT RESULTS Using the Boolean operator ’NOT’ in your searches will narrow your search results by excluding some pages with those terms/words.

  4. Searching the Internet Effectively – Boolean Searches By using the word NOT we have managed to reduce the amount of results from 484 million to 167 million. This is because the pages that we got rid off had the word dog in them.

  5. Searching the Internet Effectively – Boolean Searches AND CAT DOG DOG “AND” CAT RESULTS Using the Boolean operator ’AND’ in your searches will narrow your searchas it will only show you results that have both the words cat and dog in them.

  6. Searching the Internet Effectively – Boolean Searches By using the word AND we have managed to reduce the amount of results to around 70 million. It is still too many to check them all but was a much better way than not to reduce the amount of results on this occasion.

  7. Searching the Internet Effectively – Boolean Searches NEAR CAT DOG RESULTS Using the Boolean operator ’NEAR’ in your searches will narrow your search by only showing results where the word dog is near the word cat.

  8. Searching the Internet Effectively – Boolean Searches By using the word NEARwe have managed to reduce the amount of results to around 266 million. This is not a common search operator.
