  1. Mountain America Credit Union Jason Kukler Professor Anderson English 2010 Oct. 09, 2013

  2. Students beware!statistics show that college students rack up more than seven thousand dollars in credit card bills by the time they graduate. Why you ask? the reason is big credit card corporations prey on incoming college students. Giving them a credit card full of free money and high interest rates. But are allcorporations bad for you?

  3. While wondering the Salt Lake City campus I couldn’t help but notice the heavy influence by mountain America credit union. They sponsor allot of events and even have an atm machine and bank branch on the redwood campus. The point of getting them while there young is that you will probably have a customer for life. And the credit union sure has that right, having a bank on campus is huge! The majority of college students are 18 to 19 years old and have probably never had a real checking account of there own and here is that chance to enter the world and start becoming an adult.

  4. But why would you choose a credit union over a bank and how did this credit union get a branch on campus? Maybe the reason is customer satisfaction and word of mouth. While asking around I was surprised to find out that 3 out of 10 people already had accounts with the credit union, and most of them even told me I should go and sign up for one of my own. With this kind of advertising how can they fail. Mountain America credit union was formed in 1934 and was originally just for telephone employees.

  5. In 1984 they merged with the postal credit union and changed there name to mountain America. In 1988 they took over the Utah state credit union to become the second largest credit union in the state. They offer free checking and savings accounts along with money marketing and investment options, as well as low interest rates on loans. its easy to see why adults would like the bank, but they also have plenty of perks that will capture the younger generation as well.

  7. The credit union also sponsors a pay it forward program the helps raise money for people in need. There are pros to having an account in a credit union,Smaller branches, better loan rates, and the bank on campus is a big plus. But there are cons as well. Credit unions usually don’t have allot of branches and are not usually nationwide so when your traveling you might run into some problems. With so many options out there in the banking community you should do your research to choose the one that’s right for you.

  8. With that being said it’s my opinion that mountain America credit union might be one of the best choices for students. I have been to the branch located on the redwood campus and although they only had one person working she was not to busy to help me and answer any question I had. and It seems like everywhere I look there is a new branch popping up somewhere, and for good reason. In addition to being in Utah there also in Idaho, Arizona, Nevada, and new Mexico.

  9. Leaving for college and entering the real world by yourself can already be overwhelming enough. With classes, homework and everything else looking for a bank to join is probably the last thing on your mind. But before you sign up for the first thing that comes your way, you should wonder down to the mountain America credit union branch on campus and see what they have to offer. You’re an adult now and the choice is yours, so make choose wisely.
