  2. What is PCC? The Program for Cooperative Cataloging is an International cooperative effort aimed at expanding access to library collections by providing useful, timely, and cost-effective cataloging that meets mutually-accepted standards of libraries around the world.   3. Four Components of PCC: • NACO – the name authority program • SACO – the subject authority program • BIBCO – the monographic bibliographic record program • CONSER – the cooperative online serials program

Joining NACO • Individual institution membership • A group of libraries with common interest form a funnel project to contribute records via coordinator • Participants contribute authority records for names, uniform titles and series to the LC/NAF • FAQ on Joining NACO: http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/naco/nacoprogfaq.html

Member Benefits • Participate in the largest cooperative cataloging program in the world • Participate in the development and review of cataloging standards • Reduce the cost of cataloging operations • Reduce the amount of authority creation and maintenance that must be done locally • Update and enhance monographic, serial, and authority records • Receive free training by experienced PCC trainers and cataloging documentation provided to participants • Interact with colleagues at national libraries and other institutions • Influence policies and standards, and help shape the future of cataloging practice

  7. NACO Program Parameters • Participants agree to follow a common set of standards and guidelines when creating and changing authority records in order to maintain the integrity of a large shared authority file.
