  1. GCSE English Literature: Controlled Assessment • Controlled Assessment = 25%of the total Literature marks • The Significance of Shakespeare and the English Literary Heritage (25%): Written essay response that compares Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ and a selection of poetry.

  2. Areas for Examination English Literature Exam Exploring Modern Texts (‘An Inspector Calls’ and ‘Of Mice and Men’) English Literature Exam Poetry Across Time (Conflict cluster and unseen poetry analysis)

  3. English Literature Examinations2 papers (75%of GCSE) Unit 1: Exploring Modern Texts 1hr 30 minutes consists of 2 sections. Unit 2: Poetry Across Time 1hr 15 minutes consists of 2 sections.

  4. English Literature: Unit 1 Section A: Modern Prose or Drama Oneessay response from a choice of two questions. (An Inspector Calls ) Section B: Exploring Cultures Candidates answer one question, in two parts, on the set text: 1: response to a passage from the text 2: candidates link the passage to a whole text. (Of Mice and Men)

  5. English Literature: Unit 2 Section A: Poetry cluster from the anthology (45 mins - 36 marks) Essay response on the ‘Relationships’ poetry cluster. Candidates compare one named poem with another chosen by the candidate. Section B: Responding to an unseen poem (30 mins - 18 marks) A compulsory unseen poem. Candidates answer a compulsory question about the poem.
