  2. Aims of Options Evening • To provide information about our curriculum offer at Key Stage 4 • To provide detailed subject information and to meet the specialists! • To explain what happens next

  3. Do….. Choose subjects that……. • You can do well in • You enjoy • Give you a broad range of subjects • Will enable you to do the courses in the 6th Form that you will want to do.

  4. Don’t...... Choose subjects because….. • You like the teacher you have in Year 9 • Your best friend is doing it You will be studying this course for two years!

EBacc • Current Position • In February 2013, the Government has announced that the English Baccalaureate Certificates (EBC), that have been scheduled to be introduced for teaching in September 2015 to replace GCSEs, will no longer happen. However, The English Baccalaureate, (EBacc) still remains as a measure of performance for students achieving a C or more in the following subjects: • GCSE English Language • GCSE Mathematics • Triple or Double GCSE Science • GCSE MFL • GCSE History or Geography • The ‘Best 8’ • Students’ performance will measured using their ‘Best 8’ GCSEs which will have to include English and Mathematics;, then 3 EBacc subjects (a GCSE Science, GCSE Computer Science, GCSE Geography, GCSE History and GCSE in a Modern Language. The remaining 3 could be any other 3 GCSES and BTECs

Pathways • 4 Pathways • Targeting of students suitable for EBacc programme (Pathway 1-2) • Teaching of GCSE Geography, History and Science commences in Y9 • Geography or History compulsory for Pathway 1-2 students in Option Block A • MFL compulsory for students in Pathways 1-3 • Students on Pathways 1-3 encouraged to select one Creative subject from Option Blocks B or C (Art, Dance, Drama, Sport, D&T <Textiles and Fashion, Graphical Communication etc. > and Music) • GCSE RE to be studied by all students on Pathways 1-3 in Y10. In Y11, the large majority of students will continue but some will not sit the examination. Instead, they will be given one period each of additional English and one period of additional Maths

Ask their advice Head of Learning Understands your all-round school situation Subject Staff Can provide a true picture of your subject ability Help for You Career Advice Can give you independent advice and information on careers and further education requirements (see Mrs. Winter) Tutor Knows you quite well, having seen you develop socially and academically this year Other Students Students already doing the course can give you valuable insights

  10. Our Offer at Key Stage 4 All students continue with: • English Language and English Literature • Mathematics • Science (GCSE or BTEC L2) • MFL ( German, French or Spanish) • RE (Full Course) • PE • PSCHEE
