EVANGELIST • The first of the Gospel written was the Gospel of Mark, • It is believed that Mark wrote this gospel AD 65 in Rome. • Mark wrote for gentiles – non Jewish people who had become Christian. • Mark presented Jesus as the teaching Messiah but also as the suffering Messiah. EVANGELIST • Written around AD 85 • Matthew wrote for Jews who had converted to Christianity • Matthew was a teacher who also worked as a Rabbi which explains his knowledge of the Jewish scriptures. • This Gospel presents Jesus as the great Teacher who teaches about God’s kingdom.   7. EVANGELIST • Written around AD 85 • Written for gentile Christians, Luke himself was a gentile Christian • This gospel is filled with a concern for people with all kinds of needs • Says that Jesus’ message is for all people and that God accepts all. LUKE Religious Education Support - PDST

EVANGELIST • Written in AD 95 the last of the gospels to be written • John wrote for people who had been followers of Jesus for many years • His Gospels were concerned with the meaning of Jesus • John presented Jesus as a life giving Messiah, the son of God, the Bread of Life JOHN Religious Education Support - PDST

  9. SYNOPTIC • The gospels of Mark, Matthew and Luke are very alike. • Synoptic means ‘seeing together’ • Because of these similarities these three gospels are referred to as the synoptic. Religious Education Support - PDST
