  1. Welcome to 6th Grade! Tigers Team

  2. Schedule 7:45-8:45 Literacy (with your homeroom teacher) 8:45-9:50 1st Block 9:50-10:55 2nd Block 10:55-12:00 3rd Block 12:00-1:35 Lunch & Connections (Band, PE, etc.) 1:35-2:45 4th Block On Fridays, we will switch Literacy and 4th block so that we can have “Fun Friday”.

  3. Fun Friday • Fridays 1:35-2:40 Each week, you will have the opportunity to participate in Fun Friday. We will go outside or to the gym for some free play and socializing time. Earn this opportunity by having outstanding behavior throughout the week! Students who do not behave in class will lose their Fun Friday privileges.

  4. Supplies to Bring These are supplies that you will need this year (list includes needs for all subject areas) • One 3”, 3 ring binder • 5 dividers, labeled: Literacy, Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies • Loose leaf notebook paper • 1 pocket folder • 4 composition books (NOT spiral notebooks, please!) • Colored pencils and/or markers • Flash drive • Pens (blue/black) and pencils • Personal pencil sharpener (with cap to hold shavings) The following supplies will be collected the first week of school and distributed as students need them in their classes: • 1 ream of printer paper • Kleenex (facial tissue) • Hand sanitizer • 2 packs of index cards • 2 packs of square sticky notes

  5. Dress Code • WCMS requires uniforms, and students must be in compliance with the dress code! • Khaki or navy blue pants, skirts, or shorts (no cargo pockets) • White or navy blue collared shirts • Brown or black belt • Black or white socks • Clear or mesh bookbags (purses cannot be large enough to hold a notebook unless they are clear or mesh, as well) • NO sport or drawstring bags that are not clear or mesh; this includes PE bags! • Students who are out of dress code will receive silent lunch.

  6. Conferences Parent/Teacher conferences may be requested by parents or teachers. We meet as a team, and conferences are scheduled on Thursdays only. We are available in the following time slots on Thursday afternoons: 12:15-12:30 1:00-1:15 12:30-12:45 1:15-1:30 12:45-1:00

  7. Parent Communication • We will contact you primarily through email; weekly emails will be sent home with homework and classwork information, important team updates, and any other communication we need to convey • Our website will be updated weekly with the same information (http://internet.savannah.chatham.k12.ga.us/schools/wcms/Academic%20Teams/6th%20grade/Tiger/default.aspx) • Monthly newsletters will be given to students to bring home • Bi-weekly progress reports will be sent home

  8. Progress Reports • Progress reports are sent home every two weeks from our academic classes. • First MP progress report dates: • August 28 • September 11 • September 25 END OF 1ST MP IS OCTOBER 11

  9. Cell Phone Policy The school policy on cell phones is that students may have them at school, but they are not to be turned on. This year, we will be collecting cell phones during homeroom (in baggies labeled with student’s name), locking them up, and returning them during dismissal. If a student does not turn in his/her cell phone and is caught with it during the day, it will be confiscated and held in the front office for the following duration: 1st offence= 30 calendar days 2nd offence= 60 calendar days 3rd offence= 90 calendar days beyond 3rd offence= remainder of the school year When the confiscation time is up, a parent/guardian must pick up the phone; it will not be released to a student.
