  8. UC’s share of the state general fund dropped from 8.1 percent to 2.7 percent between 1966 and 2014. Between 2001-2013, state appropriations decreased from 23 percentof UC revenue to 9 percent.

  16. Academics always matter. Take reasonable educational risks. When it comes to the personal statement, be authentic, rather than strategic. If you shoot for the Moon, plan for a campus on Earth.

  17. Thorough and careful review of each application. Find a place for every eligible applicant. Cover systemwide tuition and fees for California students who qualify.
