  2. Derm- Definition: Skin Example: Epidermis My daughter was bitten so badly by our neighbor’s dog that it ripped the entire epidermis of part of her wrist.

  3. Dic- Definition: Say, tell Example: Dictate As they were stitching her up, my eight year old dictated instructions to her doctors. They may have gone to medical school, but she has completed 2nd grade.

  4. Dox- Definition: Opinion, belief Example: Paradox Jenny stated, “I always tell lies” was paradoxical and confusing.

  5. Duc/Duct Definition: lead Example: Deduce By the chocolate all over his face, I was able to deduce that my two year old had, in fact, eaten the cookie that he said he did not eat.

  6. Duo Definition: Two Example: Dual The dual nature of a superhero’s persona is that they are both mortal and superhuman.

  7. Dynam- Definition: Power Example: Dynamic With her winning smile and dynamic personality, Amy is destined to become the next Miss America.

  8. Ego- Definition: Self Example: Egocentricity The egocentricity displayed by the football player’s victory dance was ridiculous.

  9. Equ- Definition: Equal Example: Equitable As a mom of three kids, I have to make sure that I spend equitable time with all of them.

  10. Fac- Definition: To make, to do Example: Facsimile The Dollar Tree is selling cheap facsimiles of the fancy, expensive purse I saw at Macy’s last week (This is not true!)

  11. Fil- Definition: Thread Example: Filament The scarf she purchased at the bizarre contained filaments of real gold.
