Math Workshop: ~ I can identify 4 basic shapes. ~ I can identify 2D shapes. ~ I can identify sides & corners of 2D shapes. Reading Workshop: ~ I can actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding. Skills Block (Phonics): ~ I can read the sight words. ~ I can identify the sound of “T”. ~ I can print upper & lowercase letter “Tt” Classroom Happenings: Extra Set of Clothes – If your child uses their extra clothes please don’t forget to replace them. Book Order – Book orders are due this Wednesday! Classroom Website– check out our classroom website! Lots of great info there! MAP– The kiddos did great on their MAP test. The scores will be sent home soon. We will discuss the results at our parent/teacher conference at the end of the first nine weeks. Treasure Box–please send in the toys as you get them. Web Based Curriculum–We have 3 web based programs that we will use in our classroom. Two are new to Woodlwan; Moby Max (Math) & Lexia (Phonics) Information will be coming home about these programs soon. Raz Kids is a reading program where the kids read books on their individual level. A parent letter is coming home today with information on how your child can log on at home. READ READREAD! Field Trip – Our Downtown Danville Field Trip is this Thursday. Come join us if you can! Homework: 1. Read 20 minutes for 5 nights a week. Make sure you record it on your reading log (these will be checked every Monday). 2. Read “Take Home Book” every night (this can be part of your 20 minutes of nightly reading. 3. Read ABC linking chart nightly.

  2. Dates to Remember: With the beginning of school we will have many safety drills. Please discuss these with your child and reassure them that these are just for practice so that we know how to be safe! September 10 – Lock Down Drill – please discuss with your child before Wednesday September 11 – Tornado Drill September 8 - McDowell Place Visit September 11 – Midterm September 11 – Downtown Danville Field Trip September 18 – Colt’s Cuisine – Fundraiser at Sonic – come and enjoy dinner at Sonic between 5-7:00pm and Sonic will donate a portion of your dinner to WES. September 22-26 – WES Kids Care Week – to benefit Juvenile Diabetes (more info to come) September 26 – Grandparents Day – Grandparents are invited to come to school and see what we are learning – more info to come. September 26 – Kona Ice Make sure you bring your BEE folder to school every day!!!!!!!! A note from Mrs. Dodds & Music: Singing and moving is essential for musical awareness at Kindergarten. We have sung several game songs that require some physical activity in addition to singing. We have also talked about beat through experiences with hand movements and walking or marching. Encourage your child to share songs they learn at school. No matter their singing ability, encourage and support their efforts, however great or small.
