  1. Chemical Engineering By: Garrett Smith

  2. Overview • Chemical engineers apply principles of chemistry, mathematics and physics to the design and operation of industrial equipment and methods for the manufacture of chemical products. The fibers in clothing, soaps and detergents, leather, paints and plastics are all designed and produced by chemical engineers.

  3. What They Might Do Chemical Engineers are involved in: • Developing unscratchable plastics for PlayStation or Nintendo game systems • Creating fade resistant dyes for jeans and clothing • Inventing new dyes to color toothpaste • Analyzing materials for sports equipment • Making sure that factories don't pollute our water, soil or air. • …or be like my dad and operate a gassifire at Eastman

  4. Who Might Be Interested • You might be interested in chemical engineering if you like: • Problem solving   • Being creative   • Inventing new things   • Making discoveries   • Chemistry   • Helping others

  5. Job Opportunities • As a chemical engineer you can work at a variety of places such as: • Any chemical plant • Clothing manufacturers • Most all manufacturing plants • Any place where pollution might need to be controlled.

  6. Education • To become a chemical engineer you need a four year degree from any college that teaches chemical engineering. This form of engineering is heavy on chemistry, physics, and math so you need to be very good at all of them. • Austin Peay State University Clarksville Chattanooga State Technical Community College Chattanooga Christian Brothers University Memphis Cleveland State Community College Cleveland Columbia State Community College Columbia Dyersburg State Community College Dyersburg East Tennessee State University Johnson City Electronic Computer Programming College Inc Chattanooga Fountainhead College of Technology Knoxville ITT Technical Institute Nashville ITT Technical Institute Cordova ITT Technical Institute Knoxville Jackson State Community College Jackson Lipscomb University Nashville Maryville College Maryville Middle Tennessee State University Murfreesboro Nashville State Technical Community College Nashville Northeast State Technical Community College Blountville Pellissippi State Technical Community College Knoxville Remington College - Memphis MemphisSouthern Adventist University Collegedale Southwest Tennessee Community College - Macon Campus Memphis Tennessee State University Nashville Tennessee Technological University Cookeville Tennessee Technology Center at Crossville CrossvilleTennessee Technology Center at Pulaski PulaskiThe University of Tennessee Knoxville The University of Tennessee - Chattanooga ChattanoogaThe University of Tennessee - Martin MartinThe University of Tennessee Health Science Center Memphis University of Memphis MemphisVanderbilt University Nashville Walters State Community College Morristown
