  3. Validation – Where we were • At the last Agent’s forum on the 1st February I reported that we had 117 applications awaiting validation. • The average turnaround time was 2 weeks.

  4. Validation – Steps taken to improve • Continued training and development of the Technical Support Officers (TSOs). • Mentoring and support of TSOs by planning officers. • Active monitoring of workflow to highlight obvious blockages and take steps to alleviate these.

  5. Validation – Where are we now? • As of the 19th September we have 46 applications awaiting validation. • The Average turnaround time is now 5 working days. • A higher standard of quality of validation.

Validation – The future • Actively work to reduce the turnaround time for Householder & minor validation to 3 working days. • Continued development of the TSOs. • Working jointly with Cambridge City team to • Improve quality of applications lodged. • Support agents in making more submissions via the Planning Portal. • Build further resilience at holiday peaks to manage workflow (daily meetings, generic roles, deputy Team manager and temporary staff to manage peaks)

  7. The road to 5 day validation

Invalid applications • We received 251 applications between the 8th August and 15th September 2016. • Of these 79 were invalid, which equates to 31.47% of the overall intake. • The most common reasons for invalidity were • Incomplete or missing site location plan. • Missing Heritage and/or Design and Access Statement. • Incomplete or missing Block plan. • Incorrect Certificate completed on application form. • This has an effect upon the team as the TSOs are having to spend approximately 40% of their time dealing with and processing invalid applications including handling subsequent emails and phone calls to and from Agents. • We will be holding joint workshops with Cambridge City Council with regards to improving the quality of applications lodged.
