ARIZONA MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT HALL OF FAME A.M.E.H.O.F.
Short history of the AMEHOF • The first meetings concerning the establishment of the AMEHOF were in1999. • The AMEHOF was officially incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit Arizona Corporation in 2003.
The AMEHOF consists of a Board of Directors and an Advisory Council of around 400 people! We have an excellent website at: www.amehof.org
Up until now all work done for the AMEHOF has been done by non-paid volunteers. We hope to raise funds through grants and donations to hire professional administrators soon..
The idea to establish this HALL OF FAMEbegan at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix
The original concept was to put our museum in the lower bar area of the Celebrity Theatre • That didn’t work out and we started discussing other locations
Several locations were considered including the Dodge Theater…
but we couldn’t quite make it happen at any of these places…
One really great place we were looking at was the old El Camino Theater on Scottsdale Rd just south of Oak St.
This would have been the best choice…if we had $5 million to spend..
It’s a free standing building within walking distance from the downtown Scottsdaletourist area with plenty of parking…..
If this project had massive financial support, we could buy our own building and give the AMEHOF the environment it deserves
The El Camino theater is still available and sitting empty…We could purchase that building if we had major funding But, we decided this was out of reach for now…
We weren’t able to create the circumstances to put a deal like that together to purchase our own building so we looked for other alternatives…
In2010we decided to put the “Hall” in The Arizona Historical SocietyMuseum at Papago Park(MPP)
We thought an Arizona museum would be the perfect location for our “Hall”.The MPP had a great location (68th St. and Curry Rd. in North Tempe)and several areas for live event productions including a 1,000 seat outdoor patio and a 300 seat indoor theater
We thought this would be the perfect place for our ”Hall”...
It would be a place to build the “Hall” with exhibits and produce our induction ceremonies
The MPP seemed really excited about being partners with the AMEHOF
After 1 ½ years of negotiations, designs, etc. the MPP deal was about to be signed when they added a $4,573. per month rent demand that we had never discussed before… That was the end of that deal..The AMEHOF just couldn’t commit to that much money every month.
Right at that time, the owners of Pranksters Too in Scottsdale (S/W corner of Thomas and Hayden Rds.)informed us they were expanding their business and adding a large room to their already large area that includes a sports bar, music venue and outdoor activity areaWe discussed installing the AMEHOF in the new room and everyone agreed it would be a good deal for everyone..
Pranksters Too is a bar and restaurant. They are donating the new space for AMEHOF to produce our events and install exhibits at no cost to us. They pay all lease and utilities costs.
They allowed us to design the stage and backstage areas to be a professional first class music venue.
We began working on designs and ideas to build display casesand build a “Hall” to be the home of the AMEHOF
In March of 2015 the construction was completed and the “Hall” was opened to the public
We came up with a name for the new space: “THE HALL”The Hall is owned and managed by Pranksters Too.They produce regular musical events of their own. The Hall is a 400 capacity professional music venue
Pranksters was seriously underfunded by the time it opened the new “HALL” and they were out of money…
Since the goal was to establish a first class performance Hall where we could produce our Inductions and fundraising events, The AMEHOF has been helping them build professional sound and lighting systems and we are very close to reaching that goal.
We have produced several fundraising events in “The Hall” and raised much needed funds to help make this a first class venue
Now we need to concentrate on building our exhibits of items pertaining to our inductees.
The AMEHOF needs fundsto build over 30 separate display cases to install in the Hall. We plan to display artifacts and memorabilia relating to our inductees…
We have established a “Display Case Sponsorship” program. For $1,000. you can sponsor a case and your name goes on a plaque on the case letting people know you sponsored that case. You also get to pick which of your favorite Inductee is featured in that case…
The AMEHOF also needs funds to pay for restorative services for old tapes and other fragile items
The AMEHOF has been slowly working on digitizing old video and audio tapes. These old tapes are quickly falling apart and priceless historical materials are being lost.
We are converting these analog tapes to digital programs. We can both save the content and convert the sounds and images to a much easier format to store. We need funds to do this restoration on a professional level..
We need to get all these tapes on to modern digital programs before we lose them forever….
The AMEHOF needs funds to pay for storage and archiving of historical items…
We accept donations and we have established a PayPal account to make it easy to donate money..The website has a link directly to our donations site with PayPal.
AMEHOF’s Goals: To raise the funds to complete displays that will interest tourists, school children and the people of Arizona. Become a sustainable organization with long-term development plans. Implement community outreach to educate people about our rich entertainment cultural history in Arizona.
