Barred Tiger Salamander: Habitat, Diet, and Distribution
DESCRIPTION
The Barred Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma mavortium) is a fascinating species found in southwestern Canada, particularly in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, extending southwards through the western United States to Texas and northern Mexico. This amphibian typically grows to a length of 6 to 8.5 inches and primarily feeds on earthworms and insects, but it also preys on small frogs and baby mice. Its distinct barred appearance makes it a unique addition to the diverse wildlife of its range.
