  3. 1.What are some of the great speeches in history that you can think of? • 2.Who are the greatest speakers that you can think of (past and present)? • 3.What are the characteristics of a great speech?

  4. FEARRR • Facts and Opinions • Emotive language - Emotive language appeals to the readers' emotions. It can help convince them. • Address the audience • Repetition • Rhetorical questions - are good for making the reader think eg ""Do uniforms really create better citizens?"" Keep these to a minimum though • Rule of three

  5. Prepare the structure of the talk carefully and logically, just as you would for a written report. • What are: the objectives of the talk? the main points you want to make? • Make a list of these two things as your starting point

  6. Greet the audience (for example, 'Good morning, ladies and gentlemen'), and tell them who you are. Good presentations then follow this formula: • tell the audience what you are going to tell them, • then tell them, • at the end tell them what you have told them.

  7. 1.Speak clearly. Don't shout or whisper • 2.Don't rush, or talk deliberately slowly. Be natural, although not conversational. • 3.Avoid jokes - always disastrous unless you are a natural expert • 4.To make the presentation interesting, change your delivery, but not too obviously, eg: • a. speed, b. pitch of voice • 5. Use your hands to emphasise points but don't indulge in too much hand waving. • 6. Don't face the display screen behind you and talk to it.

  8. Colour • Don’t use similar colours for the text and background. • Don’t use toomanydifferent colours either!

  9. Using Text • Don’t use lots of different types of fonts. • ANDbe consistent with the sizeof text. • Don’tusetoomanyfeatureseither Or too much WordArt Don’t put too much writing in blocks. It can be really, really boring for people to read lots and lots of uninteresting text about nothing in particular and there isn’t really any point in writing about nothing and making someone read it and making them bored of reading it, is there? So don’t do it, at all, ever!

  14. If in doubt… • Make sure your slides all look the same • Only use one or two pictures per slide, for decoration or to illustrate your point. • Use an easy font to read e.g. Comic Sans or Arial • Only use animations to make a point • Make sure your points are brief • Use a Design Template to ensure consistency
