  2. Introduction About me . . . • Twenty-plus years as a corporate trainer • Over seven years training Maximo • Technical trainer and writer by trade • Aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air Force Who trains?

Maximo Training Experience • Three years working off-shore and in shipyards for Atwood Oceanics, an O&G exploration company • Four + years training for other O&G,utilities, and manufacturing: • Atlantic LNG • Tennessee Valley Authority • Salt River Project • Continental Cement Corporation • City of Fort Collins Utilities

  4. Who Trains? • Who works for a company using Maximo? • Who are Maximo consultants? • Who does your training? • Maximo • Other applications • Other non-software training?

  5. Training should be: • Training Goals and Styles Relevant Well-timed Focused Measurable Interactive Evolving Interesting

  6. Get involved with testing • Know the software/business requirements • Know your audience(s) • Decide best presentation methods • Know your training limitations • Build rapport • Teach what is needed • Best Practices

  7. PowerPoint • Use sparingly 12/24 Rule (if possible) • If time permits, build simulations – Plan B • Don’t read slides to class • Include introduction, schedule,objectives, and logistics • Include beginning and endingfor each subject area • Use slide switcher/pointer • Develop ITL Materials

  8. Work Logs can be added to service requests to document progress. • Sample simulation Work logs cannot be edited nor deleted once created.

  9. Any good writing tool will do – MS Word • Develop Facilitator Guides first • Send for review, make updates,and save • Create Learner Guides • Distribute only PDFs • Develop in sections fordifferent audiences • Develop Training Guides

  10. I use PowerPoint – good for text/graphics alignment • Only the “How” • Use appropriate data inscreenshots • Distribute PDFs only • Developing Job Aids

  11. Create a training plan • Create a training schedule • Get buy-in from client/training manager/Admins • Prepare on-line files in advance and have them available • Print all necessary handouts • Preparing for Class

  12. Arrive early • Turn off phone, e-mail, etc. • Test systems – yours and all students • Begin (as close to) on time • Set expectations • Make introductions – include your teaching style • Discuss logistics and schedule • Discuss goals and objectives • Starting Class

  13. Keep it interactive • Ask and answer questions • Take breaks • Keep focused – you and students • Wander about • Include all – but don’tsingle anyone out • During Class

  14. Give rosters to appropriate person. • Grade exams and give gradesto appropriate person. • Prepare for next class. • Clean up the room. • Prepare a Train-the-trainer (TTT) for client • After Class

  15. Have fun • Get involved • Expect the unexpected – plan for it • Don’t lecture • Relate to students and their jobs • Use your experiences • My Training Tips
