    2. 2 Legislative Updates House Bill 192 Excused Absences Appearing at a governmental office to complete paperwork required in connection with the students application for United States citizenship or to take part in a United States naturalization oath ceremony, including travel for those purposes.

    3. 3 Legislative Updates House Bill 192 Excused Absences Appointments with health care professionals include the temporary absence of a student diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder for an appointment with a health care practitioner to receive a generally recognized service for persons with autism spectrum disorder, including applied behavioral analysis, speech therapy, and occupational therapy.

    4. 4 House Bill 2542 Excused absences Authorizes a school district to excuse the absence of a high school junior or senior for the purpose of visiting an accredited institution of higher education for the purpose of determining the students interest in attending the institution of higher education. Limited to two days each school year per student. Districts must adopt a policy to determine when these absences will be excused and a procedure to verify the students visit.

    5. 5 Legislative Updates Senate Bill 1134 Excused Absences Allows a student to act as an election clerk. The student must be at least sixteen years of age, a U.S. citizen, trained, enrolled in an educational institution or home schooled, and have the permission of the principal or a parent (home-schooled).

    6. 6 Legislative Updates Senate Bill 90 Discretionary absences Establishes the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children. Provides that a student whose parent or legal guardian is an active duty member of the uniformed services and has been called to duty for, is on leave from, or immediately returned from deployment to a combat zone or combat support posting shall be granted excused absences at the discretion of the superintendent. (Article V)
