Judah under Jehoshaphat was attacked by the sons of Moab and Ammon, together with some of Mount Seir (Edom). 2 Chron. 20 Similarities between this battle and Psa. 83 2 Chron.20 Psa. 83 • Coalition led by Moab & Ammon • Enemies came “to cast God’s people out of” His “possession,” which “He gave” them “to inherit” • Jahaziel, a descendent of Asaph gave the words of the Lord • Miraculous deliverance, enemies fight against themselves. • Coalition led by Moab & Ammon • The enemies say, "Let us possess for ourselves The pastures of God." • This Psalm is credited to Asaph, may have been written by Jahaziel • The prayer suggest a miraculous deliverance – as God delivered Gideon by causing the Midianites to destroy themselves.
