  2. Whatis RTI (Response to Intervention)? • Based on the definition of the U.S. Department of Education RTI is a framework for supporting students who are potentially at risk and assisting them before they fall behind. RtIis grounded in high quality core classroom instruction for all students which is t hen supplemented as necessary by progressively more intensive interventions for students who may struggle with reading or mathematics. Key components of RtI are periodic universal screening to determine which students may need additional instruction and ongoing progress monitoring to ascertain the effectiveness of additional instruction. The RtI framework represents a continuum and is often depicted as a triangle with three tiers of progressive intensity. Continued

  3. Hm…Didyouunderstand what RTI is? Let’s put itintosimplerterms. • RTI isdesigned to assiststudentswho are struggling or who are about fallbehind. • RTI supports a periodicuniversal screening to determinewhichstudentsmayneedadditional help within the givencontextlearning. • RTI isalsohelps the learners in three tiers of intenesitydepending on the individualstudent’sneed.

  4. Systamic Tiers Universal Screening • Universal Screening oversees all students in measures of reliability, efficiency, and validity. • Tier 1 provides core instructions to all students. Still applies universal screening and lies focus in assessing students. • Tier 2 focuses in intensive practices in groups. Provides support to make progress in general education. • Tier 3 focuses in very limited skills and this is the most intense level, so it is often focused in a one on one interaction. Tier 3: Intensive Support Tier 2: Intervention Tier 1: CORE

  6. Colorado’sGrowth Model Three new questions • How do we close achievement gaps between different groups of students? • What needs to be done to meet goals and standards within desired time frames? • How do we know if students and schools are making enough progress?

  7. So What’sColorado’sGrowth Model About? Taking a long view – Taking a look at the data from the past and analyzing against the present for future perspective Growth Percentile– A calculation of student’s growth through data on history and also with comparison with the history of all of the peers across the state that are approximately at the same level as the student.

  8. WhatElse? Implication for proficient and advanced students– The CO growth model will not only challenge non-proficient students, but due to the growth percentvile, all levels of students including proficient and advanced students will be challenged for the next level of achievement. Implication for teachers– Student achievement will not only rely on test scores, but also through the growth model which will be observed year to year through multiple observers including parents, district, and the state. Cornerstone of accountability – The Colorado growth model will be the next frontier to demonstrate student’s highest achievement for students of k1-k12. This should be model for all schools of Colorado.

  9. The Three Essential Question For Student’s Performance. What is?– What is the achievement level and academic growth for individual student? We should use the growth percentile strategy to measure student’s growth. What should be?– We should know where the student’s growth level should be in order to achieve desired achievement level. Therefore, we should monitor well the student’s growth to get to the desired level. What could be?– What is the realistic plan for individual student to achieve their desired goal. What can we do to help the students? Ultimately what can we do to sustain the highest growth rate?
