  2. Nurturing and Human growth and development • Healthy human growth and development is dependent on nurturing relationships. • Nurturing relationships contain three key elements; • comfort • play • teach.

  3. Comfort • Comfort: Children can become frustrated, anxious and overwhelmed as they struggle to grow and learn. Caregivers must acknowledge a child's discomfort and respond appropriately with soothing language and contact.

  4. Play • Play: Children exercise, problem solve, express emotion, develop social ability and explore moral thinking in play. Caregivers should engage in play to aid in the child's development and strengthen their relationship.

  5. teach • Teach: Children need to be taught how to accomplish important tasks at each developmental stage. Caregivers can provide knowledge that helps to move the child along their development.

  6. practice Describe how each of these activities is an opportunity for development within a nurturing relationship employing comfort, play and teaching. • 1. Taking a 3 year old to a petting zoo. • 2. Grocery shopping with a 6 year old child. • 3. Making dinner with a 10 year old child. • 4. Cross-country skiing with a 13 year old.
