  1. FEA simulation for load-bearing systems in machinery Belarusian National Technical University Mechanical engineering faculty department “Metal-Cutting Machines and Tools” Head – assoc. prof., PhD. Stanislau S. Dounar dovnar@bntu.by

  2. FEA of LBS in statics and dynamics We deal with load-bearing systems (LBS) in machinery. LBS – it is just any loaded structure in different machine-building branches. We are doing simulation by Finite Element Method (FEM, FEA), then - optimization of LBS. Our specific area is machine tool design and assessment.

  3. FEA simulation for machinery Our activities include: • Computer simulation of loaded structures (mainly by FEA) • Rigidity assessment in static and dynamic states. • Searching key regions, for rigidity. • Reinforcement solutions • Detection of stress concentrators • Stress alleviation solutions • Resonance frequencies and modes finding. • Resonance omitting and management

  4. Rigidity and strength in statics Rigidity comparing for two design variants of machine tool Stress concentrators finding for automotive transaxle

  5. Extralarge Gantry-type machine tool

  6. Deformation under self-weight

  7. “Travelling column” machine tool of extra height – 7 meters Bending resonance at 11.7 Hz Twisting resonance – 35.1 Hz

  8. Oscillations of Skoda machine tool due to rotating force

  9. FEA of extra heavy lathe (EHL) for rotor machining Lathe for ø2500 mm rotor of 61 ton weight in assembly Simulation of gravity settling of shaft and lathe base, µm

  10. Resonance of support (89,7 Hz) with shaft stand still for EHL

  11. Dynamics of thin-walled machined structures Turning, milling of thin-walled huge composite tube Curved oil tube vibrates during facing

  12. Resonance tube oscillations at 92 Hz induced by machining

  13. FEA for rod centerless lathe Turning of extra-long rod. Lathe vibrates at 126 Hz. Next resonance (271 Hz) should be omitted.

  14. Design fault revealed - strong 171 Hz resonance of guide box

  15. Peat brick press Press geometry Stresses inside press LBS

  16. Press design and stresses at top dead point of crankshaft

  17. Stress concentration (relatively limited and blurred)

  18. Excavator’s boom holds 500 kg weight

  19. FEA modeling for Parthenon Famous Parthenon. Greece. Contact pressure between marble blocks.

  20. Parthenon. Gravity. Stones joined only by friction
