  1. New QLD Senior Schooling For the 2019 Year 11 Cohort and Beyond

  2. Highlights • Students will now graduate with an ATAR (<30-99.95) not an OP (1-25). • There is a different and more rigid assessment structure – including external assessment. • There is no QCS test in Year 12 but all internal school based assessments in Year 12 must be endorsed by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA). • Certain subjects have changed names!

  3. Subject Name Changes • Authority (or OP) Subjects are now called → General Subjects • Authority-Registered (or non-OP) Subjects are now called → Applied Subjects • Note: The new syllabuses are approximately half a grade harder than the old The name changes mostly affect Mathematics and English …

  4. Changes to Mathematics Click the links above for access to the syllabuses or access all subject syllabuses and prescribed text lists via: https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/new-snr-assessment-te/redev-snr-syll.

  5. Changes to English Click the links above for access to the syllabuses or access all subject syllabuses and prescribed text lists via: https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/new-snr-assessment-te/redev-snr-syll.

  6. Subject Units • Subjects are broken down into 4 units to be completed across 2 years. • All schools have to cover the same content for mathematics and sciences – there are different text options for English and humanities though.

  7. Subject Content • All of the content is accessible via the syllabuses - https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/new-snr-assessment-te/redev-snr-syll • Each unit has an overview of the topics, e.g. • As well as specific details for each topic, e.g.

  8. Assessment • Year 11 is all formative but a good trial run for Year 12. • Year 12 has all summative assessments: • 3 x internal assessments (IAs) • 1 x external assessment (EAs) or 1 x common internal assessment (CIA) developed by the QCAA • There are different weightings for different subjects:

  9. Assessment Content • The syllabuses specify the assessment and marking criteria, e.g.

  10. Timetable • Schools don’t have to complete IAs on any particular dates but they must be submitted for confirmation by set dates in year 12. • This gives you an idea of when assessments will be conducted.

  11. Resources Even after assessment, students will still have work to do. Students should be moving straight onto the next topic and all content must be retained for sciences and mathematics. • You can access all subject syllabuses and prescribed text lists via: https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/new-snr-assessment-te/redev-snr-syll to find out what to work on. • Current textbooks will still be applicable. • For extra practise, you can also access the external exam trials via: https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/new-snr-assessment-te/external-assessment/external-assessment-trials.

  12. Final Comments • While this PowerPoint is not exhaustive, we hope it clarifies the key changes to the QLD Senior Schooling system for you. • For more information, check out https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/new-snr-assessment-te, or call us today on 1300 360 245.
