Set up four years ago Balham Youth Court asked YOT to devise intervention to reduce number of young people coming to them for Possession of Offensive Weapons Good partnership working in Wandsworth already existing in regards to the 1998 Crime and Disorder Act Always trying to learn from trends in our neighbouring boroughs Coincided with the new Reparation position and the YOT’s new emphasis on group work Local Picture
Multi media workshop DVD, flipchart, discussion, small groups, case studies, stories Staff from various backgrounds. Police, YOT, preventions, Trident, medical (hospital, St Johns, paramedics) Delivered separately to preventions, YP convicted of relevant offence, all other young people in YOT Attach it to engaging activity (Chelsea FC) Train as many staff as possible to deliver it To stop young people carrying weapons and increase their awareness of the consequences of doing so
