  2. What is a Search Engine A collection of programs that gather information from the Web is called a search engine. After the information is gathered, it is then indexed and put into a database so that it can be searched. Spiders or robots are the Programs that gather the information. A tool for finding information in its database is provided by the search engine. Results from the keywords or phrases you enter are returned to you by the search engine after its search is completed. Descriptions, titles, or contents matching the search expression are presented as a list of hyperlinks.

  3. Search tools A search tool employs a computer program to access web sites and retrieve information. When you use a search tool, your request will go to the tool’s web site. There, it conducts a search of its database and directs the response back to your computer. Search tools provide an auxiliary keyword search, and correspondingly, keyword search tools usually provide subject searches. Type of search tools that available on the world wild web.

  4. The major search engines There are several popular search engines for finding information on the World Wide Web. The majority of search engines search for keywords in a site's description, and report back to the user all sites, which include that keyword, or combination of keywords in their description. Therefore the way to obtain usable results is to make the terms of your search as specific and unique to the information you are searching for as possible.

  5. Yahoo http://www.yahoo.comYahoo is a very fast search engine and it is major media leader. It has huge directory when you search the Yahoo search engine will pull up the link to some major and minor sites that relate to your search.

  6. Google http://www.google.comGoogle determines the websites that meet the search criteria and then lists the most popular sites among high-quality resources at the top of the list.

  7. Alta vista http://www.altavista.com Alta vista is a great search engine if you are trying to pull up a large number of web pages relating to your search.

  8. Excite http://www.excite.comExcite provides a search engine that will crunch through web pages, and also provides searches of recent news stories, site reviews, a shopping guide etc. Excite supports Boolean logic "and", "or", and "not" and phrase searching.

  9. WebCrawler http://www.webcrawler.comWeb crawler is similar with Excite, if you are only interested in the reviews you might find Web crawler's set-up more convenient.

  10. Lycos http://www.lycos.comLycos is more of a media site, same with Excite, Yahoo and InfoSeek. It's similar to Excite, Yahoo, and Infoseek.

  11. Infoseek http://www.infoseek.go.comInfoSeek provides guides to popular subjects, which contain links to recommended sites. It's very useful and gets you to relate sites quickly.

  13. HotBot http://www.hotbot.lycos.comHotbot is good when you are interested in a large number of results and you are searching a specific subject.

  14. The most popular are Yahoo and Google search engines. Another search engines also help you get to the right web page that contains the information you are looking for or to a website that contains links to other sites containing information on your subject.

  15. Search engine similarities You just type keywords, phrases, and specific name in a search form then click search, submit, or find. All searching is based on the principle of Boolean. There are Boolean searching and phrase searching support all search engines.
