Mandarin Curriculum What are our options? • Continue to do what we are doing with additional support • Teachers create and/or translate curriculum • Research and fund more existing supplemental curriculum • Fund additional support • Develop our own Mandarin Curriculum from scratch • Better Chinese Next Generation Product • Evaluate & determine if it’s right for us

Better Chinese Option • Background • Traditional vs. Simplified • Why Traditional • MIPs in US Market – majority is Simplified • Implications • Finding Traditional Chinese Curriculum is going to be challenging • Finding Common Core & Traditional Chinese is going to be even more challenging • Better Chinese Next Generation Curriculum • Tied to Common Core, but it’s in Simplified Chinese • Includes framework for weekly / daily lessons plans • Printed & Digital Content • Not completely built-out to its entirety • Approximately $64,000 for 2014/15 • Better Chinese Next Gen Product in Traditional Chinese • For delivery in Sept. 2015, need to start development in Jan. 2015 • Requires a development fee of $100K - $150K (T&Cs negotiable), plus the cost of the materials • Options: • Pay for the entire development fee ourselves • Get other Traditional Chinese Schools interested & have them be part of a collective bargaining deal

  8. 2015 Fundraising Goals Direct Giving – 100% Participation • 288 students x $1,000 suggested donation = $288,000 • Less then $112 per month or $6 per day! • 61% participation in 2013 and only 46% in 2014 • Reduce budget to $150,000 based on historical participation rate Additional Ways to Participate • Volunteer time and goods at our fundraisers throughout the year • Volunteer services such as grant writing, public relations, etc. What will we have to cut if we don’t reach our fundraising goal? • Reduced investment in Mandarin Curriculum • Fewer Instructional Assistants • Less Program Support
