  2. London 2012 The Olympic games has its origins in ancient Greece, where the first games took place in 776 BC. Since then sport has evolved and changed dramatically and the modern Olympics has become the benchmark for worldwide sporting achievement. There is no higher accolade for an athlete than winning an Olympic Gold medal. In 2012 the Olympic games will be staged in London. This is a wonderful opportunity to get involved in this classic sporting event. What will be happing in London?

  3. London 2012 London will soon have a new Olympic park and an aquatics centre built for the Olympic games. There will also be a velopark for cycling events, Plus an Olympic hockeycentre. There will also be three new arenas and a new Olympic village where the athletes will stay during the Olympics.

  4. Joining in The spirit of the Olympics is reflected in the Olympic creed: This applies to you too. There are many challenges you can undertake in the Olympic spirit.

  5. Joining in The 2012 London website is encouraging people from all over the country to become involved in the Olympics by setting challenges for themselves to achieve by 2012. This could be something simple as “I’m going to learn how to juggle by 2012” Or perhaps something even bigger like “I'm going to join in and break a world record by 2012” The most important thing is that you try to do something.   6. Why Exercise? Being active and playing a sport is not only great fun, but it canhave real benefits for your health. Regular exercise can: • Reduce the risk of heart disease and other long term illnesses. • Increase confidence and can help prevent depression. • Improve your appearance and promote weight loss. • Improve your posture. • Have a positive effect on your bones and circulation. • Provide natural pain relief and improve your life expectancy. More than this, you’ll find it can beone of the most enjoyable waysto spend your time.

  7. How much? Teenagers should aim to do at least one hour of physical activity per day. This doesn't have to be difficult you could: Walk or cycle to school. Help with housework. Take up a new sport. Play outdoor games. Climb stairs instead of taking the lift. Get a paper round. Dance to music. Making a small increase in the amount you exercise each daywill soon add up and make a big difference over a year.
