  2. Introduction to Embedded Systems • Embedded System is a combination of Software and Hardware which is embedded in large electronic systems. • All computing systems other than general purpose computer falls under the category of Embedded Systems.

  3. Elements of Embedded Systems • Hardware So that other devices can be connected. For e.g. processor, I/O devices, memories etc. • Main application Software To run the programming codes designed as per the project. • Real Time Operating System(RTOS) To supervise the working of main application software.

  4. Embedded Systems vs. Microcontrollers • A microcontrolleris an electronics device that has an inbuilt processor, memory and peripherals. It can be used as an embedded system. • Most of the microcontrollers that we use today, are embeddedor placed in other electronic systems.

  5. Classification of Embedded System • Small Scale uses 8 to 16 bit microcontroller • Medium Scale uses 16 to 32 bit microcontroller • Sophisticated Scale uses more than 32 bit microcontroller
