Sexual harassment is a form of gender discrimination that involves unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other unwanted verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when (1) submission to such conduct is explicitly/implicitly a term or condition of a person’s job, pay or career; (2) submission to/rejection of such conduct is used as a basis for career or employment decisions affecting the individual; or (3) such conduct has the purpose/effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual’s work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment. Sexual harassment comes in different forms, such as: • verbal behavior: unwelcome compliments, comments, suggestions, jokes, whistling, or derogatory remarks based on sex; • physical behavior: touching, grabbing, patting or pinching, repeatedly brushing against someone’s body, cornering or blocking, or unsolicited back or neck rubs; • nonverbal harassment: staring, blowing kisses, posting of sexually suggestive or derogatory pictures, cartoons or drawings, even at one’s work station, or using any other media to disperse items of a sexual nature. If you believe that you or other members or employees have been sexually harassed, you are encouraged to immediately identify the offensive behavior to the harasser and request that it stop. If you are uncomfortable in addressing the matter directly to the harasser, or if you do so and the behavior does not stop, then discuss the matter immediately with your supervisor or one of the POCs listed on this poster. No member or employee will be discouraged from filing a complaint or should fear retaliation for participating in a complaint.
