  2. During these 2 hours, there are very few ads concerning food. Most of them concern cars, toothpastes, shampoos, or cosmetics. Over the week, there is a total of 4h36 minutes TV commercials for both private and state broadcasters. Unhealthy commercials represent 8% of this total for the private broadcaster while it is 0% for the state one.

  3. REGULATION IN FRANCE In accordance with the TWF Directive "TV without Frontiers directive", advertising time is limited on French television.  For private broadcasters, the ceiling is 12 minutes per hour.  Forpublic broadcastersthe ceiling has been lowered to 8 minutes per hour.

  4. HEALTHY MESSAGES OR WARNING In France, all adverts for processed food and drinks containing added fats, sugar or salt must now carry healthy eating messages or companies will face fines, under rules launched by the government to tackle obesity.

  5. The messages were defined by a 2007 Decree and approved by the National Institute of Health Education: • For your health, eat at least five fruits and vegetables a day. • For your health, exercise regularly. • For your health, avoid eating too many foods that are high in fat, sugar or salt. • For your health, avoid snacking between meals. Children know thesehealthy messages by heart!
