  1. Past (Simple) Tense We use past tense to talk about something that started and finished in the past. The action is no longer happening. Sometimes, Past tense is very easy – you normally add ‘ed’ to the end of your verb. However, when we use the verb ‘to be’ or ‘to have’, then the endings change. There are also irregular verbs, like ‘go’ changes into ‘went.’ I had a test yesterday. She coloured her hair. We went to the zoo. You were late to lesson. They failed the test.

  5. Past Continuous Tense Remember, we use this to talk about things that happened in the past, but over a period of time. We see this most in stories, when someone is retelling an event. Julia was dating Andrew last year. I was going to a tutor, but not anymore. They were going to be late if it continued to rain. Similar to Present Continuous, we add ‘ing’ to the verb. But we also have to add ‘was’ or ‘were’ depending on the pronoun. Copy these sentences down and complete them: Annie was _______________________. 2. I was ____________Maths. 3. You were _____________________. 4. We were ____________ a holiday.

  6. Add the correct word to the sentence: Doesn’t Does Choose Relax Can Will Didn’t Chose Relaxed Could Would Is I ___ not go to the canteen for lunch. You need to ___ an essay topic. She ____ ride a horse. He was _____ after the massage. The children _____ not sleep after watching that horror film. What ____ this mean? Now, write a sentence for the words that are left.
