  1. 10 facts about Belize you should know Belize is known as ‘Mother nature’s best kept secret. There are jungle adventures, waterfalls, Mayan ruins and caves. Belize has some of the best dive sites in the Caribbean and the 2nd biggest barrier reef in the world. Here are 10 amazing facts about Belize you should know! 1.Belize is the only English language-speaking country in Central America. While English is the official language of Belize, Kriol is a dialect that is spoken by everyone.

  2. 2.The first people to develop Belize were the Maya around 1500 B.C.E. The Mayas established a number of settlements in Belize which includes the popular Caracol, Lamanai and Lubaantun. 3.The Belize dollar is locked at $2 Belize = $1 USD. So it’s very easy to see how much something is costing in USD when you go shopping. 4. Belize has the lowest population density in Central America with 35 people per square mile or 14 people per square kilometer.

  3. 5.Belize is subtropical, with an average temperature of 84° F (29°C). Even in winter (November-March) the temperature in Belize rarely falls below 60°F (16°C), while the summer (May-September) is around 86°F (30°C). Humidity is also fairly consistent at around 85 percent. 6.Belize obtained its independence from Britain on September 21, 1981. George Cadle Price was the first prime minister of Belize and he served from 12 September 1981 to 17 December 1984.

It is also part of the larger Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System. 10. The islands in Belize are called Cayes (pronounced “keys”) and total around 450 including those on the outer atolls.
