  6. Gov. Paterson’s Renewable Energy Task Force • As Lt. Gov. David Paterson headed the comprehensive NY State Energy Task Force • April 10, 2008, now Governor Paterson announced an Executive Order to establish a State Energy Planning Board • Some of the Initiatives are as follows: Sustainability Initiative

Paterson’s Renewable Energy Task Force Demand Side: • $1 billion, 10-year “efficiency Long Island” • promote natural gas efficiency measures to reduce electricity demand 15% below projected levels by 2015 Supply Side: • Seek alternative natural gas supply proposals (pipe & LNG) • Major solar power RFP for Long Island • Streamline Article 10 process • Develop a strategy for NY’s wind & solar potential Other Task-Force Initiatives: • review state policies and regulations affecting development of renewable and alternative energy • develop incentives to attract clean energy industries to economically depressed regions of the state. • Identify promising areas for state research and development Sustainability Initiative

  10. Biodiesel – what is it? Biodiesel – is generally manufactured from vegetable or animal fats. It differs from petroleum or diesel, a fossil (carbon) fuel. Biodeisel can be burned 100% or blended in part with petro-diesel as fuel for engines, boilers, or other combustion equipment that have traditionally used petro-diesel. The key benefit is biodiesel (a biomass fuel) burns 78% cleaner than traditional petro-diesel fuels and is renewable. Sustainability Initiative
