  2. What exactly is Ewing Sarcoma ? • Ewing Sarcoma is part of the Ewing Tumor Family. • It is a malignant tumor that appears long bones in the soft tissue in most adolescents.

  3. Symptoms • Swelling-making it hard to make full movements • Bone Breaking-for no reason • Weight loss or exhaustion • Shallow breathing • Inexplicable feebleness or paralysis

  4. Prevalence • Males are more likely to develop than females. • Mainly white children not many African Americans or Asians. • Between the ages of 10 and 30 • About 250 kids every year are identified with Ewing Sarcoma.

  5. Causes/Transmitted • This disease is caused by the EWS gene moving within the cell when a change occurs on Chromosome No.22 next to part of the DNA. • Occurs almost always after the child is born . • Not hereditary.

  6. Treatments First : Chemotherapy –To shrink the tumor. Then : Radiation-to kill the cancer cells. After : Imaging tests are run to see if the tumor is localized enough for surgery.

  7. Interesting Facts • About 70% of the people with localized tumors have about a chance of living for five more years. • But if the tumor is metastasized ,their chance of living is brought down to 20% to 30%. • Yet if the cancer is in the lungs the rate is better • Most survivors live normal lives with hardly any complications.
