  2. Ewing sarcoma of the kidney INTRODUCTION -rare malignant tumor usually occurring in adults -typically involves the bones -characterized by translocations: t(11;22)(q24;12) -prognosis generally poor: pT is the determinant factor

  3. Ewing sarcoma of the kidney CASE REPORT -39-year-old woman -flank left pain and hematuria -9 cm mass involving the left kidney (CT scan) -radical nephrectomy

Ewing sarcoma of the kidney RESULTS MACROSCOPICALLY: the lesion (9 cm) showed greyish-tan color with areas of necrosis MICROSCOPICALLY: the cells were monotonous, arranged in nodules and sheets with formation of rosettes and with hyperchromatic rounded nucleus with finely dispersed chromatin and micronucleolus. Mitotic figures and necrosis were present.

  6. Ewing sarcoma of the kidney RESULTS CD99 WT1 FlSH using a probe for EWSR1 region on chromosome 22q12 revealed a rearrangement of the EWSR1 locus

Ewing sarcoma of the kidney CONCLUSION The differential diagnosis of ES can be difficult, expecially with Wilms tumor and clear cell sarcoma Cytogenetical demonstration of the rearrangement of the EWSR1 locus by FISH is a fondamental supportive tool to immunohistochemistry in making the diagnosis of Ewing sarcoma.
