  2. Pre-Production • In the pre production stages, a crew is hired containing actors, sound, editing, producer etc… • A location is also picked to film in for example, Lord of the Rings is filmed in New Zealand. • In the post production the script is written by the script writers and a story board is made. • However in the example ‘Women in black’ it is based on a book so most of the ideas would have come from the book. • All the equipment is bought from the budget that is set. Such as, cameras, lighting, sound, editing software and the crew. • The set design is the main part of the pre production stages, a lot of work goes into the set to make it believable. • Before the shooting of the Hobbit, the director plans out what the actors are going to do, this makes sure it runs smoothly on the day of filming.

  3. Production • In the production part, the film is shot and put together. • In ‘The Hobbit’, It is set in New Zealand which means the whole crew and all the equipment need to be taken over. There are over 140 lorries used to transport all the equipment around the country. • During the making, a lot of cameras are used to capture the shots. And sound equipment to pick up the sound/voice. • During the production a lot of things are taken into consideration, such as weather, food, facilities, accommodation for the whole cast. • Lighting and special effects are put in to the filming part. Such as Lighting in the indoor shooting to make the audience think that they are outside. • The special effects include things like Green screens to place images or backgrounds behind the cast and this makes it seem that the cast are outside or in a different world. • Gollum is one of the characters that is animated over an actor needs to wear a costume that

  4. Post-Production • The post production part is at the end of the process, it involves the cutting of the clips, the editing and sound. • Sound: The sound team in the hobbit create all the animated sounds for the created characters such as goblins, trolls and oarks. Below you can see the technology used to create the layers of sound.

  5. Editing • This stage is after the cutting of the clips, they are sent to the editors. The editors can then add special effects and 3D effects. • Lighting is added if the clips don’t have the correct colours. • They can make animations of the characters. • All the editing is done by using computer software, and you can see below how it is done. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8WT_5Nt5dI
