Ever to excel. Year 11 Parents Information Evening. The Challenge. Each student on average will take the following Core subjects: English, Maths, Science Foundation Subjects: Usually 3 or 4 others. The majority of students are taking 9 GCSE. All GCSE’s have become more challenging.

  1. Ever to excel Year 11 Parents Information Evening

The Challenge • Each student on average will take the following • Core subjects: English, Maths, Science • Foundation Subjects: Usually 3 or 4 others. • The majority of students are taking 9 GCSE. • All GCSE’s have become more challenging. • A grade C has been split into 2 (new grade 4 and 5) • Grade 4 is a pass but grade 5 is a good pass • An A* has been split into 2 grades (new grade 8 and 9) • A grade 9 is only awarded to the top 2-3% of students • Grade 5 is the new benchmark for most sixth forms and colleges • Increasingly Universities are expecting good GCSEs as well as A - Levels

How do we meet the challenge? • Teaching and learning – every minute counts • Behaviour for learning - Code of conduct • Form time • Specific feedback around core assessment objectives • Setting and/or differentiation in lessons • After school intervention • Half term and Easter revision classes • Pupil Premium Club

  5. Home Learning…. • Year 11 students always have work to complete at home. • Tasks can include exam-style questions, extended writing, revision, subject knowledge. • Students should be using class notes and revision guides • Please ensure your child can access

Revision….. • Ensure they have a revision timetable and are not leaving • revision until the last minute. • Check the work they are doing, ask them to show you their • notes and test them. • Supervise the use of laptops and mobile phones • Be aware of important dates and events within the academic • year.
