Web 1.0 • Web Quests • Slam Dunks • Web Dilemmas • The intent of these activities was to have students collect information from a pre-selected pre-existing web sites, evaluate the information and present their findings either as a web based outcome or in some other electronic or hard copy form.

  3. Web 2.0 • Wiki Quests • Wiki Dunks • Wiki Dilemmas • The intent of these activities is to have students collect information (by primary and/or secondary research), evaluate that information and present their findings as a Wiki or a Blog. • But it doesn’t stop there!

  4. Why? • The move to Wiki’s and Blogs is about interactivity. • Having created a Web 2.0 application, the student can continue to add and edit the information presented, they can visit each other’s work and make suggestions (peer assessment) and others can visit their wikis or blogs and leave information or correct the students work.

  5. How? • Well, it’s actually really easy; even for a digital immigrant like me. • http://wikispaces.com • http://theedublogger.edublogs.org/

  6. Benefits • The students become engaged in their investigations and sharing what they have found. • Peer assessment. • Ongoing assessment. • Connection to a broader community.

  7. Disadvantages • Access. Students need reasonably easy access to the web, but only when they need to upload more information. • Management of student interactions. Cyber safety and respectful behaviours have to be reinforced at all times. • The technology swamps the concepts. Some students become really involved in the social aspects and the opportunity to make their wiki interesting and exciting.
