  2. Westminster Area Westminster is an area of Central London and it is situated on the North bank of the River Thames. It includes the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral.

  3. Westminster Abbey Westminster Abbey is a gothic church in Westminster Area in London. The Abbey has seen the coronations of all English kings and queens since William the Conqueror in 1066.

  4. The History of Westminster Abbey Between 1042 and 1052, King Edward the Confessor built Westminster Abbey in Romanesque style but the construction of the present church was begun in 1245 by Henry III who selected the site for his grave.

  5. The Poets’ Corner The Poets’ Corner is one of the most popularparts of Westminster Abbey, itisa place of pilgrimage for literature lovers. Over 100 poets and writershavebeenburied or commemoratedhere.

  6. Big Ben Big Ben is the clock towerbellabovethe Houses of Parliament. It’sfamousall over the world as the symbol of London. Big Ben is the nickname applied to the greatbell by Sir Benjamin Hall, now Big Ben isused to refer the clock, the tower and the bell.

  7. The History of Big Ben The construction was raised as a part of Charles Barry's design after the old Palace of Westminster was largely destroyed by a fire on October 16, 1834. It is in the North end of the palace of Westminster in London. The tower is called «The Elizabeth Tower» because English peoplecelebrated here the Diamond Jubilee of ElizabethII in 2012.

  8. Big Ben: its design The tower was designed in Pugin's Gothic Revival style, and it is 96 m high. The bottom (61 m) consists of brickwork with sand-colouredAnstonlimestone. The tower has no lift though one is planned; there are 334 limestone steps to the top.
