  2. Waste to Energy Convert2Green is: • a business which specialises in the food sector • based in Middlewich, Cheshire • produces road transport bio-diesel from used cooking oil (UCO) • produces power/heat and cooling from generators/CHP systems running on bio-fuels created from waste • produces power/heat from anaerobic digestion of food waste • also collects and recycles other waste streams to energy from the food industry

  3. Waste to Energy • Convert2Green is at the forefront of fast-changing ‘green’ technologies such as bio-fuels, electrical generators, combined heat and power (CHP) systems, biomass systems, wind, solar and geothermal • One such technology is the virtuous circle power generation system, which utilises waste cooking oil to provide low carbon transport fuel, electricity and heat to buildings.

  4. Road Transport • National Waste Oil Collection Service • Caterers, Food Factories, Local Councils (including schools) • Starting a pilot of doorstep collections • Supply bio-diesel mainly to LGV’s captive fleets, high blends e.g. from B10 to B100 • Save up to 85% on carbon emissions because of the methods utilised • All collection and delivery vehicles run on bio-diesel • The C2G factory runs on a bio-diesel CHP system • There is no waste from the factory as all bi-products are further processed or used in digestion.

  5. Road Transport • Case study 3663: • Supplied B30 mix for 4 years, 3 million litres per annum to 1,100 vehicles • Carbon saving • Worked with vehicle manufacturer Scania to keep normal service schedule at B30 mix. • Virtuous circle feedstock

  6. Heat &Power Systems • Developed Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system, runs on liquid bio-fuel • Gives a 70 – 90% saving on carbon against “grid” power • System has been installed in hospitals, leisure centres and food factories • Carbon Trust Loans available • Can also operate “cool / freeze” from the system for multi-temperature storage • The number of enquiries asking for bio-fuels for heating systems to reduce carbon footprint are increasing • Cornwall Food Production Unit (CFPU) – Case study

  7. Case Study:Cornwall Food Production Unit

  8. Carbon Emission results comparison Micro-generation vs. standard grid electricity supply

  9. Key Points: • Convert2Green: • only works with used cooking oil and waste products • does not import or export • maximises the environmental benefit • research and development (R&D) arm is looking for the best carbon saving fuels • is a member of UKSBA, liaising closely with the Department of Transport, DECC and RFA, trying to support the UK’s Renewable Fuels Industry • Virtuous Circle: All UK waste oils / fats should produce UK energy
