  3. The Imperative/Commands The command form of a verbis used to express: • orders • invitations • requests • rules • advice

  4. Formation When giving a command in French you only use the TU, NOUS, and VOUS form of the verb. WHY? You have to tell someone what/what not to do.

  5. VOUS COMMANDS • Talking to more than one person • Talking to a group of people OR • Talking to ONE person formally - an adult - a stranger

  6. TU COMMANDS • Talking to one person • Talking to someone informally • friend • family member • classmate

  7. NOUS COMMANDS = Let’s • Talking to a group of people, including yourself. • “Let’s” – there is no word for let’s in French, it is implied by the NOUS command.

  8. VOUS COMMAND FORMATION 1. Go to the vous form of the verb. Vousécoutez 2. Drop the vous. Ecoutez 3. Add an exclamation point. Ecoutez!

  9. TU IR/RE FORMATION • Go to the tu form of the verb. Tufinis • Drop the tu. Finis 3. Add an exclamation point. Finis!

  10. TU ER FORMATION • Go to the tu form of the verb Tuparles • Drop the tu Parles 3. Drop the s (EXTRA STEP) Parle 4. Add an exclamation point Parle!

  11. NOUS COMMAND FORMATION NOUS COMMANDS = “Let’s” 1. Go to the nous form of the verb Nous parlons 2. Drop the nous Parlons 3. Add an exclamation point Parlons! = Let’s talk!
