What does a practical nurse do • Provide basic personal care to patients, such as bathing, dressing wounds, treating bedsores. • Administer medication and observe and record reactions. • Check blood pressure and vital signs, collect blood and urine samples • Keep track of patient records. • Assist Registered Nurses and Doctors

  3. Required education • To be a practical nurse one must have a high school diploma or GED. • Complete a one or two year course ata vocational college or approved practical nursing program. • Become registered in your province and complete the Canadian practical nurse registration examination. • Useful courses to take in high school would be: Biology, Chemistry, English and Math.
