Independence History • Loyens & Loeff came into existence in 2000 following a merger of Loyens & Volkmaars and part of Loeff Claeys Verbeke. Our roots go back to the 20th century.   16. Market opinions (1) • Leading the field in Chambers Europe Loyens & Loeff holds on to its top ranking position as leading Benelux law firm, as revealed in the Chambers Europe Guide for 2011. In the Tax category, our offices in the Benelux all prolonged their tier 1 ranking. Chambers said: “This Benelux firm is synonymous with expertise in tax law” and “[…] clients […] appreciate the firm’s high-level service and expertise in all areas of tax law”. Our Dutch offices also achieved tier 1 status once again in the categories Investment Funds, Real Estate, Real Estate: Zoning and Planning, and Transportation: Shipping Advisory. As regards Investment Funds, Chambers was impressed by Loyens & Loeff, stating that: “It is home to a large group of experts who bring together a comprehensive skill set, to tackle the whole range of funds matters.” And, in terms of Real Estate, Chambers reveals: “With its large real estate practice, Loyens & Loeff is without doubt one of the strongest firms in the market.” Chambers gave our Dutch offices a tier 2 ranking in the categories Corporate/M&A, Banking & Finance, Private Equity, Capital Markets: Securitisation, Employment, Insurance, Energy & Natural Resources: Regulatory, and Energy & Natural Resources: Transactional. Our office in Belgium is once again ranked tier 2 in the categories Dispute Resolution and Employment.   17. Excellent results in Chambers Global Loyens & Loeff has achieved excellent results in the Chambers Global Guide 2011. In the Corporate/ M&A category, Chambers commended Loyens & Loeff as “a robust player throughout the Benelux region”. “It offers integrated M&A and tax advice, making it a popular choice with investment funds and private equity clients.” Our Dutch office earned a tier 2 listing and our Belgium office a tier 3.As for the Banking & Finance category, our Dutch office this year rose from tier 3 to tier 2. Our office in Belgium was ranked tier 3. According to Chambers, our advice is “always clear and straight to the point”. This year, Loyens & Loeff Netherlands was ranked tier 2 in the Capital Markets: Securitisation category. Our Luxembourg office achieved a tier 3 position for Capital Markets.   18. Market opinions (3) • High scores again in the Legal 500 Loyens & Loeff again scored very highly in the Legal 500 in 2011. As in previous years, we achieved the highest ranking in the category Tax. Legal 500 said: “Loyens & Loeff is outstanding, with its width of services and large network of almost 400 tax specialists”. In the categories Environment and Planning, Mediation, and Real Estate, our Dutch offices once again earned a tier 1 ranking. In the area of Real Estate, Legal 500 said: “Loyens & Loeff is expert, accurate, innovative, respectful, and swift”. Loyens & Loeff maintained its solid position in the other categories as well. Legal 500 publishes reviews and research on legal service providers from more than 100 countries. • The only Benelux law firm in the American Lawyer Global 100 Loyens & Loeff is once again the only Benelux firm listed in the American Lawyer Global 100. We are in 86th place with a turnover of USD 396 million. This overview is compiled by The American Lawyer and Legal Week. • High ranking in the Mergermarket M&A League Table Loyens & Loeff is ranked second, based on the number of transactions, in the Mergermarket Benelux M&A League Table for 2010. This table is based on the number of (announced) transactions in the Benelux during the period of 1 January to 31 December 2010.

Market opinions (4) • High ranking in Overfusies.nl's League Tables 2010 Loyens & Loeff ranks second in Overfusies.nl's League Tables for 2010, in terms of number of deals, on the list of firms with their headquarters in the Netherlands as well as on the list of firms that have advised on Dutch deals, regardless of their geographical location. • Best M&A firm Loyens & Loeff was named Best M&A firm and received a Golden Hourglass award. The award was presented at the official presentation of the KSU publication De Stand van de Advocatuur 2009. The award for best M&A firm is based on information from OverFusies.nl's merger and acquisitions database. It is handed out to the law firm which advised on the largest number of deals. • Once again number 1 in real estate For the fourth year running, Loyens & Loeff emerges as number 1 in the real estate lawyers rankings set up by the trade magazine PropertyNL. Loyens & Loeff heads the list way ahead of the rest.The study was carried out among more than 40 law firms and civil law notary offices. PropertyNL looked at the total transaction values of the firms in 2009.

  20. Market opinions (5) • Best Employer in the Netherlands In 2009, for the second consecutive time, Loyens & Loeff was chosen as Best Employer in the Netherlands. We scored the highest (8.4) on the employee satisfaction scale in the large-organisation category (more than 1000 employees). The year before that, Loyens & Loeff won the award scoring 8.2. In 2010, our score was 8.3.The Best Employer Survey was compiled by the market research bureau Effectory. • Favourite law firm among law students Law graduates in the Netherlands prefer to enter the legal profession and they choose to join Loyens & Loeff rather than other firms. That goes for both male and female lawyers. They also consider Loyens & Loeff to be the most ‘recession-proof’ law firm. This emerged from the Law Labour Market and Image 2010 survey published by Memory Magazine. Loyens & Loeff was the favourite law firm among law students in 2009 as well, according to Memory Magazine. • Loyens & Loeff Luxembourg wins prizes Loyens & Loeff Luxembourg was named Global Benelux Law Firm of the Year in 2009 by ACQ Global. World Finance called the firm Best Corporate Tax Team in Luxembourg in 2009. • Loyens & Loeff is Belgium’s Tax Firm of the Year 2010 International Tax Review recognises Loyens & Loeff as Belgium Tax Firm of the Year, based on innovation, complexity and size of practice. • Best Benelux Law firm 2011 Loyens & Loeff has been named the ‘Best Benelux Law firm’ of 2011 by the jury of the International Legal Alliance Summit Awards (ILASA). The International Legal Alliance Awards reward the best independent law firms of the year. They recognise distinguished law firms in their domestic market for their excellent results of the year and lasting performance in management and leadership. After an accurate selection based on quantitative and qualitative criteria, more than 200 international independent law firms competed for the grand prize.
