WHAT HAVE WE ACHIEVED: FEB 2012 - NOW Completed vision, mission and objectives NDMC and fire specialists, Fire Protection Association of South Africa, SAIA members, Eskom • All municipalities that have access to building control services to provide consistent qualified appraisals of fire designs in South Africa. • To increase the footprint / access of municipalities to suitable building control / fire safety skills critical to economic development i.e. 10% increase in access to services. • For all relevant insurers, financiers and engineers to complete a CPD program on fire risk. • FPASA is an accredited educational provider. • Creation of a central fire dashboard of shared public and private data to drive MIS planning and decrease systemic risk. • To ensure that the proposed and existing regulatory and policy frameworks enable the objectives indicated above and enable insurance practices.

WHAT HAVE WE ACHIEVED: FEB 2012 - NOW Accountability • Agreed a formal merging and management of the fire strategy to FPASA Strategic partnerships • Drafted MOU with NDMC – finalising now Standards and regulation • Completed various evaluation of SANS standards • Response on white paper discussion document CPD • Completed accreditation of the FPASA qualifications through IISA Municipal Capacity – qualified building plans • Started the study to profile municipal building control and fire safety officers profile – to add to fire loss data = dash board • Approval insurers sign off to ploy software with the fire departments • Draft outline and concept discussion with Provincial Government of Western Cape and City of Durban on piloting the Etana software • Preparing for pilot

NEXT STEPS Strategic partnerships • Overarching MOU to be finalised with NDMC in conjunction with FPASA MOU Municipal Capacity – qualified building plans • Define how we manage the preparation for the piloting of the software Lessons learnt Collaboration is possible Takes time upfront Needs dedicated focus Requires willing partners = mutually beneficial outcomes with key prioritisation
