Task: Measurement of Transverse Profiles • Technical Requirements • Operational Requirements • * With the possible exception of the last monitor before the beam dump Rasmus Ischebeck, SwissFEL Diagnostics Review: Screen Monitor 2
Distribution in SwissFEL • 23 Screen Monitors: Rasmus Ischebeck, SwissFEL Diagnostics Review: Screen Monitor 3
Measurement Principle • Combination of two monitors: • Scintillating crystal • Optical transition radiation • Wire scanners: See Gian Luca’s presentation Rasmus Ischebeck, SwissFEL Diagnostics Review: Screen Monitor 4
Design Considerations • Scheimpflug imaging principle • Snell’s law of refraction Observation of the Scheimpflug imaging principle allows to image the entire screen without depth- of-field issues. To avoid astigmatism, the lens is not tilted, but the detector is tilted. For a 1:1 imaging, we tilt the CMOS sensor by 15º. The YAG / LuAG scintillators are observed at such an angle that Snell’s law of refraction is observed. As a consequence, we can image beams that are smaller than the thickness of the scintillator. Implementation (coherent) OTR to camera Rasmus Ischebeck, SwissFEL Diagnostics Review: Screen Monitor 6
Implementation: Prototype installed in SITF Rasmus Ischebeck, SwissFEL Diagnostics Review: Screen Monitor 7
Measurements with the Prototype > Emittance Measurement The smallest beam in this measurement is 50 µm rms. Beams of 10 µm rms have been measured. Rasmus Ischebeck, SwissFEL Diagnostics Review: Screen Monitor 8
Measurements with the Prototype • Slice emittance measurement of a 10 pC beam Eduard Prat, Marta Divall Rasmus Ischebeck, SwissFEL Diagnostics Review: Screen Monitor 9
