  2. What is Career Cruising? Career Cruising is an Internet-based career exploration and planning tool used by your son or daughter to explore career and college options and develop a career plan. Career Cruising can be accessed from school, from home, or wherever your son or daughter has access to the Internet. Features of the program include: ASSESSMENTS World renowned assessment tools to help your child identify his or her career interests, skills, abilities, and learning styles CAREER PROFILES Thorough and up-to-date information about hundreds of different occupations, including direct links between careers and related college programs MULTIMEDIA INTERVIEWS Interviews with real people in each occupation, which add depth and realism to career profiles COLLEGE AND FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION Comprehensive college and financial aid information, with a number of useful search tools to help your child find the right college and the right scholarships EMPLOYMENT GUIDE Advice for all stages of the job search process, including developing a job search plan, networking, writing resumes and cover letters, preparing for interviews, and adjusting to a new job PORTFOLIO An online portfolio where your child can develop and reflect on his or her academic, personal, and career exploration activities, and make plans for the future RESUME BUILDER Integrated with the portfolio to help your child create, format, and print professional looking resumes quickly and easily PARENT PORTAL Allows you to view the information your child has stored in his or her portfolio, learn more about the careers and schools that your child is interested in, and communicate with your child’s career advisor. To register for your Parent Portal, go to www.careercruising.com/Parent and enter your activation code. To receive an activation code, please contact your child’s career advisor.

Found in the Assessments tab • Career Matchmaker • 116 questions total • Likert scale • List of careers at the end based on the answers the student chose Must complete Career Matchmaker to access: -My Skills (Rate your level of skill in 45 key areas to see how your skills match up with the careers that you are interested in.) -Ability Profiler (Learn more about your abilities and see how your abilities compare to those used in careers that interest you.) -Learning Styles Inventory (Discover how you learn and retain information and find tips on how to improve your study habits to suit your learning style.)

  7. In the Careers tab • Explore Careers by: • Index • School subject • Industry sectors • Clusters • Use the blue tabs on the left to learn more about a specific information about a career • Save to your portfolio

  8. In the Schools tab Search for schools by: -Location -Programs -Compare schools • Cool features to check out: • Planning Timeline • Financial Aid

  9. Compare Schools Don’t waste time searching for the information you need on the individual university website. Compare schools side-by-side to see which school appears better on one screen!

  10. In the Employment tab • Tools for future employment: • How to create resumes • Prepare for an interview • Letter writing It provides a Job Search tool that is powered by Indeed.com The Coolest Part!!!

Parents’ Role • It’s never too early to start career planning! -Sit down with your child and discuss their plans for life after high school • Use the tools found in Career Cruising to start planning. • Save the Career Cruising website to your Favorites tab on your home computer • Have your child save everything in their portfolio

Portfolio The Career Portfolio In this section, you can: Save your Career Matchmaker Results Keep notes on the careers that interest you Research and save information on colleges, universities and other programs Select or plan courses that you will take in high school Develop an education plan based on your career interests Express your career and life goals List your extracurricular activities and work experiences The Resume Builder This section makes it easy for you to create a great looking resume that showcases your: Career objectives Education Work and volunteer experience Skills and abilities Extracurricular activities Awards and certificates you have received
