  3. Many traditions in our country have been popular for ages and many people • keep going to celebrate them. We want to show you some of them to bring closer our culture, habists and life style…

  4. OCTOBER • Rosary • The most popular tradition in October is a special prayer to the Virgin Mary which is called rosary. • We take our rosaries and go to church to pray with other people for health, happiness and whatever we want. • The Virgin Mary’s month is a good time to think about our changes.

  5. 14thOCTOBER • Day of National Education • It’s a Polish national holiday of education and higher education. • That day is celebrated in institutions • related to education. • It is also an opportunity toreward outstanding teachers and school employees.

  6. 16thOCTOBER • Day of Pope John Paul II • Polish National holiday, celebrated every year, established in honor of the Pope-Pole John Paul II. • John Paul IIreigned as Pope of the Catholic Church from 1978 until his death 2 April 2005in Vatican City. • He was the second-longest serving Pope in history and the first non-Italian since 1523.

  7. 1st NOVEMBER • All Saint’s Day In Poland it is an off-day, what cause that many people travel, even great distances, to visit the graves of their beloved ones. People visit cemeteries to decorate graves with flowers. They light candles and pray. It is an expression of memory, honor and respect to the dead.

  8. 11thNovember • Independence Day • It is a national holiday when all patriots enjoy Poland’s assumptionof independent statehood in 1918, after 123 years of partitions.

  9. 29thNOVEMBER • St. Andrew’s Day • A fortune telling evening, celebrated on the night of 29th to 30thNovember, on the eve of St. Andrew, the saint patron of Scotland, Greece and Russia.In the beginning, the holiday of St. Andrew’s was treated very seriously and foretelling the future was held only individually.

  10. 4th December • Miners Day Traditional Polish feast celebrated in the name day of St. Barbara, the saint patron of miners.In the tradition mining Barbórka morning begins with a solemn Mass in church.

  11. DECEMBER • Advent • It is time for the spiritual preparation for the birth of Christ, celebrated in all Polish Christian churches with the early morning Mass, called the „Roraty”. • “Roraty” starts early in the morning in • complete darkness to show readiness for Christ’s coming. It starts four Sundays before Christmas and is connected with fasting and mourning.

  12. 6th DECEMBER • St. Nicholas Day • December 6th is St. Nicholas Day, and Mikolaj places gifts under children's pillows. Alternatively, Mikolaj visits in person, either dressed in elegant bishop's clothing or in the merry red winter suit typical to the Western Santa Claus. • Sometimes, gifts are accompanied by a switch to remind children to be good. Mikolaj may make an additional appearance on Christmas Eve.

TheparticipantswiththeEnglishteachersupporthavetranslatedthetextiediscriptions of customs and traditions and havecreatedthispresentation.
