  3. INTRODUCTION • Born 26th October 1759 in Arcis-sur-Aube • Lawyer and french politician • Good orator and an energetic man • Famous by his talent on speeches • A revolutionary and very intelligent

  4. EARLY LIFE • Her dad died when he was 3 • Denied to study an ecclesiastical career • Married Antoinette-Gabrielle Charpentier • 4 sons --> 2 survived • Lawyer in the King's council

  5. CORDELIER COUNCIL • President of the club founded in 1790 • Beginning of the revolution • A radical action was needed • Suspected he accepted bribes

  6. GAINING POWER Champ de Mars massacre: • Directed the Champ de Mars massacre (17th July 1791) • July 31st elected administrator of the Paris department • Supported the insurrections of August 1792 • Minister of Justice • 5th of September 1792 elected deputy of Paris

HIS ROLE IN THE REVOLUTION • 1792 gave a speech • Voted for the execution of the King • President of the revolutionary court March 1793 • Joined the National Convention April 1793 • 1973 the National Convention enforced their authority --> 40,000 people killed • September 1793- July 1794 - The Reign of Terror • Danton tried to bring peace • Against the execution of Marie Antoinette Interrogation Louis XVI:

  8. DEATH Robespierre: • Became a victim of The Terror • Accused of financial misdeeds • 30th of March 1794 was arrested • Robespierre ordered his execution • Died 5th of April 1794 • "Don't forget to show my head to the people. It's well worth seeing."
