  1. PT UNIVERSITY ROLL NO :18055493 COLLEGE: Satyam college of Education ,Moga Pedagogy of mathematics

  2. What you observe from these two images ?

  3. What is the difference between these ?

  4. These all represent different amount ,number or measurement that answers question how much and these are called “QUANTITIES” And their comparison is defined by “RATIO”

  5. WHAT IS RATIO?

  6. RATIO IS COMPARISON OF TWO QUANTITIES BY DIVISION Ratio is represented by sign - ‘:’

  7. The ratio form of 2/1 is 2:1 2 : 1 is read as ‘two is to one’

  8. 2 is the first term 1 is the second term 2 : 1 First term : second term In the ratio 2:1 2 and 1 are called the terms of the ratio

  9. Blue circles=5 Pink circles=6 Ratio of Blue circles to Pink circles=5:6 Example:-Find the ratio of Blue circles to pink circles?

  10. REMEMBER • The quantities compared should be of same kind - Prize of apples cannot be compared with the height of student for example - Rs 20 cannot be compared with 150cm

  11. EXAMPLE 4m TO 2m Written as 4 : 2 = 4/2 Reduce to lowest term 2 : 1 SIMPLEST FORM of ratio

  12. Express the ratio of shaded blocks to whole blocks ?

  13. TOTAL NUMBER OF BLOCKS IN A TRIANGLE = 6 SHADED BLOCKS = 3 RATIO OF SHADED BLOCKS TO WHOLE BLOCKS= 3/6 3/6 =1/2 1 : 2

  14. SECTIONAL RECAPITULATION • COMPARING TWO QUANTITIES BY DIVISION IS CALLED __________

  15. QUESTION—Mr Raj earns Rs 25000 every year and pays Rs 14000 as income tax .find the ratio of: 1)Income tax to income2)Income to income tax

  16. Total income=25000 Income tax=14000 Ratio of income tax to income =14000/25000 =14/25=14:25 2) Ratio of income to income tax =25000/14000 =25/14=25:14

  17. KEY POINTS • The names/units of two quantities should not be used in the ratio. Example – Ratio of 3m to 2m is 3 : 2 not 3m : 2m • The ratio should always be expressed in simplest form. Example – 4 : 8 Should be written as 1:2

  18. FIND THE RATIO OF 3Kg TO 250gm ?

  19. WE KNOW 3Kg = 3000gmso, RATIO OF 3Kg TO 250 gm= RATIO OF 3000 gm TO 250 gm=3000/250=12/1 OR12:1

  20. 1)RATIO IS DENOTED BY SYMBOL ________ 2)A RATIO IS ALWAYS EXPRESSED IN ITS ____________ FORM 3)THE FIRST TERM OF RATIO 9:13 IS______ AND SECOND TERM IS ______ 4)THE RATIO OF LETTER ‘M’ ‘MATHEMATICS’ TO THE TOTAL WORDS IS ________ 5)THE RATIO OF EVEN NUMBER TO ODD NUMBERS IN A SET OF NATURAL NUMBERS FROM 1 TO 25 _________ FINAL RECAPITULATION

  21. HOME WORK Out of 32m long cloth , 24m were used for making 8 frocks . Find the ratio of - a)Total cloth and cloth used b) Remaining cloth and cloth used There are 50 students in the class ,if 24 of them are boys ,Find the ratio of boys to girls?
