  6. The Fall of the Aztecs • The City of Tenochtitlan was the capital city of the Aztec Empire. Some called it a city of gold!

The Fall of the Aztecs • Montezuma was the ruler of empire when conquistador Hernan Cortes arrived. • The Aztecs believed this pale man (Cortes) to be a god, with strange animals for riding (horses)! • Cortes took Montezuma hostage! He wanted gold! • The Spanish were able to conquer the Aztecs with their guns germs and steel.

Columbian Exchange • Crops, Goods, Animals, and even Diseases were “exchange,” or traded between the Old World (Europe, and Africa) and the New World (Americas). • Name after Columbusand his voyage in 1492 that started the “trading” of culture. • Opened up Europe, Africa, and the Americas to new crops, and animals that they had never seen before. • The disease destroyed the Native American populations. Europeans were immune.
